The Office of Student Involvement is dedicated to supporting the educational mission of the University by enriching students’ college experience outside the classroom. Through a collaborative, holistic approach it is our goal to enhance the student experience and provide ways for students to engage with each other, creating a vibrant campus community.
Our office, in conjunction with many others on campus create and implement a variety of campus wide events such as, but not limited to:
Welcome week kicks off the Friday before classes begin with residence hall move in day and continues throughout the first week of classes. These events, both for new and returning students, provide activities which orient new students to UMKC as well as provide fun social activities for both new and returning students to interact with faculty, staff and fellow students. Just a few of the events that take place during welcome week are:
- New Student Convocation
- Workshops and open houses for various offices/departments on campus
- Classroom tours
- Welcome Back BBQ
- Community Service Day
Homecoming, which is held each fall in October is a time for UMKC alumni to return to campus and a time for current UMKC students to show their pride and school spirit. At UMKC, Homecoming consists of a variety of activities for all students as well as some healthy competition for our student organizations. Homecoming week concludes with the community gathering at Durwood Stadium to cheer on our soccer team!
Courtwarming is an exciting tradition that is quite unique. Each February, we celebrate our school spirit and our spring athletic teams with a week of activities. The week concludes with the coronation of our Mr. and Ms. UMKC, as well as Mr. and Ms. Congeniality. Some of the events during the week include a trivia night, Yell Like Hell, and a Courtwarming dance.
