The Greater Kansas City Writing Project is an authorized inservice provider for No Child Left Behind (NCLB) and related programs, including:
- Title I
- Title V
- High Objective Uniform State System of Evaluation (HOUSSE)
- Highly Qualified Teachers (HQT)
- Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP)
The Greater Kansas City Writing Project (GKCWP), working through the University of Missouri - Kansas City, provides comprehensive in-service programs and on-campus courses in the teaching of writing from kindergarten through college. GKCWP workshops and courses connect theory with practice by incorporating writing into various academic curriculums for the enhancement of student learning and communication.
Since its establishment in 1983, GKCWP has worked with teachers representing more than 30 school districts in Kansas and Missouri. GKCWP is affiliated with the National Writing Project and is designed on the teachers-teaching-teachers model of the Bay Area Writing Project (founded in 1973).
Program Aims:
- improve student writing abilities by improving the teaching and learning of writing in schools and universities;

develop collaborative university and school professional development programs for classroom teachers;
- expand the professional roles of classroom teachers.
