Teachers Teaching Writing: Summer Invitational Institute
Debbie Blackman & Michael Prier,  June 11 - July 11, 2008

The Invitational Institute is the heart of the GKCWP's programs. It brings together outstanding teachers of writing who work with diverse students in all academic content areas, kindergarten through college. The Invitational Institute provides a supportive, dialogic environment in which to explore possibilities as writers, teachers, and leaders. The theory and practice of writing are examined through individual demonstrations, reading, and discussion of current research, and writing and sharing in writing response groups. Social justice and social action undergird the experience in an attempt to support socially responsible approaches to the teaching of writing. Upon completion of the Institute, participants receive an $1050 honorarium and are designated "teacher-consultants" who may conduct future GKCWP-sponsored in-service programs.
