Decorate a Roo Contest Announcement:

Student Organizations-show us your creative side and your school spirit by participating in our Decorate a Roo contest! It's easy-just sign your organization up by emailing coxons@umkc.edu or calling 816.235.1407 to reserve your Roo today! Plywood Roos will be available starting Wednesday, September 21 from 8:30am to 5:00pm and will need to be returned on Monday, September 26 for display during Homecoming. Roos will be judged and the winners announced during the Women's Soccer game on Friday, September 30 starting at 4:00pm in the Durwood Soccer Stadium and your organization must be present to win! Organizations will receive the following for winning the contest: 1st Place-Free T-shirts for your Organization (Up to $500) and 2nd & 3rd Places-Free Pizza Party for your Organization (Up to $150).

Kangaroo Karaoke

Sing your heart away on our very own UMKC Stage! Choose from over 8,500 songs and show us what you've got! Free snacks will also be available and Homecoming shirts will be provided to anyone who sings!

Horrible Bosses Screening

Join The Mob as APCinema presents Horrible Bosses on the big screen! What's even better? It's free for all UMKC students!

Tuesday, Sept. 27

Make Your Own Music Video

Coffeehouse Stage, Student Union

Make your very own music video and get a digital copy to show your friends on Facebook just how amazing you dance (or how awkward you dance)! Grab a ton of costumes, your friends, and take the stage to your favorite song! A limited supply of free Homecoming shirts to be distributed!

Get Hypnotized with the Trance Lady!

Theatre, Student Union

No, we're not talking about the Notorious B.I.G. song (but hey, that's a good one), we're talking about watching you or your friends get hypnotized! Head to the Student Union Theatre and watch Trance Lady, Dr. Joanna Cameron, turn your friends into movie stars, audition for the "Ministry of Silly Walks," or perhaps speak in Martian. Seating is limited, so get there early! Sponsored by the Activity and Program Council. A limited supply of free Homecoming shirts will also be distributed!

Thursday, Sept. 29

UMKC's Got Talent!

Theatre, Student Union

You think you've got what it takes? You've practiced at Kangaroo Karaoke, and made your own music video this week, but now it's your time to shine! Bring your spoken word, your poetry, your dance, or your song to the stage! Performers will be critiqued by an esteemed panel of judges (don't worry, Simon Cowell isn't planning to show). Winners receive amazing prices and opportunities to perform at future events! Also, a limited supply of free Homecoming shirts will be distributed! If you're interested in performing, contact the Activity and Program Council at apc@umkc.edu by 5 pm on Friday, September 16th to do a quick audition!

Friday, Sept. 30

Golf Cart Parade Decorating

University Center Walkway

Show us your school spirit as your organization decorates one of our golf carts and cruise your way through the Chancellor's Lunch where carts will be judged! Organizations can decorate carts starting at 9 am until noon when we'll start the parade. Advanced planning is encouraged! Decorations will be provided, but the Resource Room in the Student Union will be open all week for you to get a head start! Any remaining shirts will be distributed to our creative decorators!

Check out the student organizations and athletics teams parade through the campus as we celebrate Homecoming! Organizations are encouraged to bring candy or give-a-ways to throw out to the crowd! Faculty and Staff are encouraged to come watch and support our students! Winners will be announced at the Men's Soccer Game on Saturday, October 1st starting at 7:00pm in the Durwood Soccer Stadium! Organizations will receive the following for winning the contest: 1st Place-Free T-shirts for your Organization (Up to $500) and 2nd Place-Free Give-A-Ways to help Publicize your events (Up to $250) and 3rd Place-Free Pizza Party for your Organization.

Participants wearing their Homecoming shirts distributed earlier this week can win all kinds of prized including free Jay-Z/Kayne West concert tickets to the Sprint Center! Winners of the Decorate a Roo contest will also be announced during the game, so make sure your organization is present to win! All home games are free for UMKC students and make sure to bring your student ID to earn ROO Reward points-Bonus Game-4 points for attendance! Game tickets can be purchased through the UMKC Athletics Website.

Volleyball vs. Western Illinois

Bump, set, wham! Watch the UMKC Volleyball Team smack down conference opponent Western Illinois after you finish up the soccer game! Participants wearing their Homecoming shirts distributed earlier this week can win all kinds of prizes including free Jay-Z/Kayne West concert tickets at the Sprint Center! National Kidney Foundation Walk

The UMKC Alumni Association has partnered with the Kidney Foundation to sponsor their annual walk. The walk will take place at UMKC on our Volker Campus, starting at the Playhouse area on 51st street. Onsite registration begins at 9:00am. Click here to register!

Women's Center Open House

This event kicks off a yearlong celebration of the UMKC Women's Center's 40th Anniversary. Stop by for some light refreshments, learn about our upcoming events, and sample the custom blend coffee created for the 40th Anniversary by The Roasterie.

Quilts on the Quad

UMKC Quad Area, 52nd & Rockhill Road.

This unique outdoor art installation will feature over 200 quilts created by local quilt artists and members of the Kansas City Modern Quilt Guild. Co-sponsored by the Kansas City Modern Quilt Guild and UMKC Campus Facilities.

Block Party-A Celebration of everything UMKC!

11:00am-3:00pm

The party will begin right after the Kidney Walk. Join us along 51 Street in the courtyard between Swinney Auditorium and the University Center. There will be food trucks, family carnival games, fun classes and demos, displays, an Alumni Association booth and tours of our new Student Union and Miller Nichols renovations. Visit the UMKC Alumni Association site for more information and registration. Student Organizations can sign up to help coordinate the games for kids (and adults) by contacting the Office of Student Involvement at getinvolved@umkc.edu or by calling 816.235.1407. Any organization that participates is eligible to enter a drawing to receive an additional $250 allocation to go towards their organization for the year!

The UMKC Athletics Department will conduct a free soccer clinic at Durwood Stadium for youth from grades 1 through 8. Each participant will receive a free ticket to the Roo Men's Soccer Game at 7:00pm, plus an additional free ticket to the Roo Women's Soccer game the following day! Click here to sign up!
