Parking Waivers

During the 2011-2012 academic year, the Oak Street parking structure is being re-built. This will result in reduced parking on the Volker campus. All residence hall students (students living in Johnson and Oak Street Halls) will be required to purchase Residential Life parking permits at Hospital Hill if they wish to bring a car to campus. These permits are located in a secure lot at our Hospital Hill campus and will be sold at a reduced rate of 60% ($44 per semester). Students may take the Kansas City bus between campuses for free with their bus pass.

In order to address special circumstances, UMKC has created a waiver for which students in the residence halls may apply. Residence hall students may submit a waiver form to park at the Volker Campus for the following reasons:

  1. Medical need - students need easy access to a car for frequent doctor or other type of medical appointments. Students must submit documentation of need with waiver form to be considered.
  2. Off-campus employment - students need easy/frequent access to a car because of an off-campus job to which they report three or more times per week. Students must have job before coming to campus to be considered for this waiver, and they must submit documentation of work with waiver form to be considered.

All waiver forms and attached documentation should be submitted to the Office of Residential Life, Room 2004 Oak Street Residence Hall, 5051 Oak Street, Kansas City, MO 64112 or by email to snyders@umkc.edu. An application for waiver does not guarantee that a waiver will be granted. Students will receive notification from the Office of Residential Life whether or not their waiver has been granted.

Individuals who have a state handicap plate or placard (and who have the documentation that shows the placard belongs to them) do not need to go through the waiver process. These individuals will receive an automatic waiver from Parking Operations.
