Minimum Wage
Mandatory minimum wage rates for employees are
established by the Fair Labor Standards Act (federal) and Missouri Revised
Statutes (state). Employers are required to pay as a minimum rate of pay
whichever rate is higher.
Effective July 24, 2009, the new federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour.
Since this is more than the current Missouri minimum wage, UMKC is required
to pay hourly employees no less than $7.25 per hour.
Effective January 1, 2013, the Missouri minimum wage changes to $7.35 per
hour. UMKC hourly employees earning less than $7.35 per hour should have
their hourly pay rate changed effective December 23, 2012, the first day of
the pay period in which January 1, 2013 occurs.
The Missouri minimum wage requirements are reviewed each fall. Human
