Minimum Wage

Mandatory minimum wage rates for employees are established by the Fair Labor Standards Act (federal) and Missouri Revised Statutes (state). Employers are required to pay as a minimum rate of pay whichever rate is higher.

Effective July 24, 2009, the new federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour.

Effective January 1, 2015, the Missouri minimum wage is $7.65 per hour. Since this is more than the current Federal minimum wage, UMKC is required to pay hourly employees no less than $7.65 per hour.

The minimum wage requirements are reviewed by the State of Missouri each fall. Human Resources will notify HRFs when changes are expected. Contact Compensation (x6670) if you have any questions about the minimum wage.
