Talent Development

The University of Missouri-Kansas City recognizes that its faculty and staff are our most important resources. The role of the UMKC talent development team is to develop, promote and provide learning opportunities to support employees and organizational growth. We welcome any feedback or content suggestions for any future training sessions.

Supervisory Training and Development

The Supervisory Development Series is designed for newly hired or promoted supervisors and managers who manage staff. By participating in this program supervisors and managers will be equipped with the fundamental skills necessary to become an effective and successful manager of talent. This program includes eight required courses as well as supplementary courses through MyLearn.

A certificate of completion will be awarded to all supervisors who complete the eight required courses as well as the required myLearn courses.

Kansas City Professional Development Council

Human Resources sponsors the UMKC membership to Kansas City Professional Development Council (KCPDC). As a member institution, KCPDC will fund all event registrations for any full- and part-time UMKC employee.

Learning & Development Coaching

Coaching is a journey of professional discovery and growth.  As a manager you are influencing, developing and retaining precious resources – your staff by defining expected outcomes and providing continual feedback. As staff, you are working hard to make a difference in your position and may be focused on future opportunities on campus. Knowing your strengths, interests and motivations are key ingredients to determine your next step.

Additional Development Opportunities

Our goal in HR is to increase the visibility of all  learning and development opportunities on campus. As a result you will find training events hosted by various campus departments and external organizations on the HR training site.
