Bruce Schulman is a Professor
of History at Boston University. He has written extensively on American
political culture and economic growth. His books include: From Cotton Belt
to Sunbelt: Federal Policy, Economic Development, and the Transformation
of the South 1938-1980; Lyndon B. Johnson and American Liberalism; The
Seventies: the Great Shift in American Culture; and the forthcoming
Reawakened Nation, the Birth of Modern America, 1896-1929, the latest
addition to the prestigious Oxford History of the United States series. He
is also a frequent contributor to national newspapers including the Los
Angeles and New York Times. In addition to his scholastic achievements,
Schulman's talents as a teacher have been recognized twice at UCLA and
then twice again at Boston University. |

Lisa McGirr is Dunwalke Associate
Professor of American History at Harvard University where she teaches
twentieth-century U.S. history. Her most recent book, Suburban Warriors: The
Origins of the New American Right (a multiple prize winner), examines the
grassroots rise of the national political right. In addition to her many
articles on American conservatism, labor, and reform movements, her current
research is focused on the 1920s, revisiting the Sacco-Vanzetti case as well as
writing a social and cultural history of national prohibition. |

Susan Hartmann is Professor of
History at the Ohio State University. Among her many works are two prize winning
monographs: Truman and the 80th Congress and The Home Front and Beyond: American
Women in the 1940s. She is the author of From Margin to Mainstream: American
Women and Politics since 1960 and The Other Feminists: Activists in the Liberal
Establishment. She has written numerous articles and essays on feminism, public
policy, and 20th century American social and economic history. Her work has been
supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities, the American Council of
Learned Societies, the Rockefeller Foundation, and the American Association of
University Women. In addition to her other public service positions, Professor
Hartmann also sits on the Board of Directors of the Truman Library. |
