Good news for HSCP Students

Brigham Young University Expands Dual Credit Acceptance

Until this January, Brigham Young University's (BYU),policy on acceptance of transfer credits from concurrent enrollment programs did not include credits earned in classes taken high schools during the normal school day. For High School/College program students seeking admission to BYU, this meant that their University of Missouri credits would not transfer. The text below, transcribed from a letter dated January 12, 2004, is the official announcement of the change from the Brigham Young University Office of High Schoiol and College Reltions.

I am pleased to announce that Brigham Young University has recently re-evaluated the policy regarding concurrent enrollment credit. Effective immediately, BYU will accept all college credit which appears on an official transcript from a college or university accredited by the regional accrediting commissions or the associations of schools and colleges that together cover institutions chartered and/or licensed in the United States and its possessions, regardless of when or where the work was taken. This is a change from the previous policy where credit was not granted for classes taken at the high school during the normal high school day.

The University has approved the new concurrent enrollment policy to further encourage students to take courses that best prepare them for university-level classes and to maintain a strong relationship with rural school communities who often depend upon concurrent enrollment strategies to enhance curriculums.

OIU sincerely hope this policy change will assist you in helping students pursue higher education. Questions regarding this updated policy may be addressed to the BYU Office of High School and College Relations at (801) 422-5000.
