The School of Computing and Engineering http://www.sce.umkc.edu.htm was formed at the University of Missouri-Kansas City by combining the Computer Science Telecommunications program and the Engineering programs. The Department of Computer Science Electrical Engineering (CSEE) has 25 full-time faculty and is very active in research with funding from NSF (including NSF CAREER award), DARPA, and industries. It is dedicated to excellence in teaching. SCE is one of the largest schools at UMKC with 1000 students. Degrees at all levels are offered. The Civil and Mechanical Engineering department (CME ) offers ABET-accredited BS and MS degrees in Mechanical and Civil Engineering and participates in UMKC’s interdisciplinary PhD program. CME currently has 10 tenured/tenure-track faculty members supported by teaching and adjunct faculty and approximately 180 undergraduate and 55 graduate students. The Department has an extensive record of external funding, including funded grants from NSF, NIH, and industry.

Position Title: Dean, School of Computing and Engineering
Position Description: The University of Missouri-Kansas City invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the School of Computing and Engineering. The Dean reports to the Provost/Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and provides academic and administrative leadership for the School.

Currently SCE has ABET-accredited civil engineering (CE), mechanical engineering (ME) and electrical engineering (EE) undergraduate degree programs that are complemented by undergraduate computer science (CS) degrees. In 2001 the EE degree was combined with computer science and the school now offers a bachelor's degree in electrical and computer-engineering (ECE) degree. The School has graduate programs offering traditional MS degrees in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. At the doctoral level, the School participates in UMKC's innovative Interdisciplinary Ph.D. program, which enables students to work across multiple disciplines and develop a personalized academic focus. The four coordinating disciplines from SCE are Engineering, Computer Science and Informatics, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Telecommunications and Computer networking. Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include an appropriate terminal degree, significant experience in academic leadership, and a record of substantive professional accomplishments. It is preferred that the selected candidate merits appointment as a full professor. In addition, it is desired that the applicant demonstrate strong innovative and entrepreneurial leadership, literacy with technology, experience with interdisciplinary research programs as well as collaborative, interpersonal, and proven resource development skills. Final candidate will be required to successfully pass a criminal background check prior to beginning employment.

Position Description: The School of Computing and Engineering at the University of Missouri – Kansas City (www.sce.umkc.edu) seeks candidates for an assistant professor position in Civil Engineering. A successful candidate should have a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education and the development of an externally-funded research program, as well as excellent communication skills. Industrial experience and the ability to obtain a Professional Engineering license are highly desirable. Candidates are sought who specialize in construction engineering, with the ability to teach core undergraduate classes in civil engineering materials and/or geotech/foundations. Opportunities exist to interface with numerous engineering and construction-related organizations in the metropolitan area, including national construction and design-build engineering firms. A new graduate project management course sequence began in fall 2007. An earned doctorate in Civil Engineering or a closely related field is required. Position Description: The School of Computing and Engineering (SCE) is seeking applicants for an assistant professor of Mechanical Engineering position within the School’s rapidly-growing Civil and Mechanical Engineering (CME) department. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to quality undergraduate and graduate education and will be expected to develop an externally funded biomedical engineering research program. While all areas of biomedical engineering will be considered, primary consideration will be given to applicants with experimental or computational experience in biomedical devices, biomechanics, biomaterials, or bioinstrumentation.
