Position Title: Position Description: 1. The individual would be expected to assume responsibility for the operation and care of one or two sophisticated laboratory instruments, such as the microwave spectrometer, high resolution infared interferometer, Raman spectrometer. 2. The individual should be able to teach graduate students how to operate the equipment and how to provide instructions on the interpretation of the data. 3. The individual should be able to work with samples at high pressures of rare gases and provide instructions to students on how to obtain information on temperature-dependent infrared spectra of such solutions. 4. Statistical calculations on the data are required and the utilization of ab initio calculations to obtain theoretical infrared Raman spectra are necessary. 5. The individual is expected to have a basic knowledge of structural chemistry and have the ability to prepare noxious compounds in a vacuum as well as handle corrosive and explosive materials. This includes not only the
preparation and purification of such materials but also the determination of their purity.
Qualifications:
Successful completion of at least four semesters of laboratory work in
