Position Description:
Part-time position, hiring contingent on the needs of the Writing Center and
budget approval. The primary duty is to assist students with writing from a
variety of academic disciplines through individual tutoring and small group
sessions. Other responsibilities include leading workshops; collaborating
with staff to work on handouts, workshops, and other projects; attending
scheduled tutor training and other professional development activities to
obtain and maintain CRLA tutor certification; answering Writer's Hotline
calls; maintaining confidential student records; and scheduling
appointments.
Qualifications: Applicants
must be currently enrolled UMKC students (undergraduate or graduate) with at
least a 3.0 GPA and be able to provide proof of completion of English 110 or
equivalent writing course with a letter grade of B or better (completion of
English 110 and 225 is preferred). Tutoring experience is preferred but not
necessary. Individuals interested in tutoring at the Writing Center should
possess a sincere desire to assist students with the writing process.
Effective listening and communicating skills are essential. The successful
candidate should be reliable, professional, friendly, and service oriented.
All tutors are required to be available to work a minimum of 10 hours per
week during the fall and winter semester, possibly including some evenings
and weekends. (Hours are normally available during the summer and are
offered to Writing Center tutors based on budget approval and the needs of
the Writing Center.)

Position Description: Teaching 1 or 2 sections of English 110 or English 225 while enrolled in 6 or 9 hours graduate work. Term of appointment, one semester. Renewable for a maximum appointment of two years.
Qualifications: Must be accepted in the Graduate Program in
English at UMKC as a regular Master's degree-seeking student.
