Position Title:   Research Associate (Position # 36258)

Position Description:  A research associate position is available at the UMKC-Nursing School to study the molecular and cellular mechanisms of muscle fatigue, muscle aging and other muscle pathologies. This individual will be joining the new laboratory of Dr. Marco Brotto, Associate Professor of Nursing and Medicine at UMKC.  Dr. Brotto’s laboratory will be located in the new state-of-the art Health Sciences Building.  Dr. Brotto’s research is currently funded through the American Heart Association and UMKC startup funds. Dr. Brotto has two fascinating animal models of reduced and enhanced resistance to muscle fatigue and his lab has recently demonstrated the role of store-operated calcium entry in muscle fatigue and muscle aging. 

   Qualifications:     Required qualifications include:

The candidate should have a solid knowledge and hands on experience on molecular and cell biology techniques such as (DNA and RNA isolation and purification, PCR & RT-PCR, gene cloning and transformation, cell culture and transfection, protein assays, SDS-PAGE, Western-blot, shRNA technology). The candidate will have a superb opportunity to learn wet-lab physiological and biophysical techniques. Initial salary will range from $28,000-$37,000 plus benefits, depending on the experience and level of education, and, is guaranteed for at least 2 years with a starting date on September-October of 2007.

Position Title: Research Associate (Position #37177)

Position Description: This 1.0 FTE position is located in St. Louis, Missouri to work with the principal investigator for the Midwest Missouri AIDS Training and Education Center grant.  The individual will be responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of HIV educational programs for the Eastern side of Missouri.  In addition, he or she will be part of a team for the implementation of larger programs.  Meetings, timely completion of paperwork, reports, and travel are also a part of this job. 
Qualifications: BSN or BS in Social Work is required with a minimum of 1 year experience with HIV Care in any capacity.  This individual must have effective communication skills, organizational skills, and follow through.  He or she must be an independent worker and a self starter.

Position Title: Clinical Instructor

Position Description: This is a .25-1.0 FTE, 12-month faculty position to teach undergraduate nursing courses and/or in graduate nursing program. Primary teaching responsibilities include didactic and clinical instruction in clinical courses and didactic in selected core courses, including courses offered on-line. Supervision of students in the clinical setting is expected. Position Title:   Teaching Assistant

Position Description: This is a .25-1.0 FTE position to assist in monitoring course delivery via Video Network at the St. Joseph, Joplin, and Kansas City outreach sites for various graduate nursing courses. Responsibilities include: receiving orientation to the expected responsibilities from designated supervisors at the outreach sites and to the expected course responsibilities from the faculty assigned to the course; attending each class session and monitoring for smooth progression-and communicating any concerns to the course faculty; collecting student papers, projects, exams, etc., and sending them to course faculty; receiving materials from course master and distributing them to students.
