Position Title:   Research Associate (Position # 36258)

Position Description:  A research associate position is available at the UMKC-Nursing School to study the molecular and cellular mechanisms of muscle fatigue, muscle aging and other muscle pathologies. This individual will be joining the new laboratory of Dr. Marco Brotto, Associate Professor of Nursing and Medicine at UMKC.  Dr. Brotto’s laboratory will be located in the new state-of-the art Health Sciences Building.  Dr. Brotto’s research is currently funded through the American Heart Association and UMKC startup funds. Dr. Brotto has two fascinating animal models of reduced and enhanced resistance to muscle fatigue and his lab has recently demonstrated the role of store-operated calcium entry in muscle fatigue and muscle aging.

The candidate should have a solid knowledge and hands on experience on molecular and cell biology techniques such as (DNA and RNA isolation and purification, PCR & RT-PCR, gene cloning and transformation, cell culture and transfection, protein assays, SDS-PAGE, Western-blot, shRNA technology). The candidate will have a superb opportunity to learn wet-lab physiological and biophysical techniques. Initial salary will range from $28,000-$37,000 plus benefits, depending on the experience and level of education, and, is guaranteed for at least 2 years with a starting date on September-October of 2007.
