Online Course Certification
Quality Online Courses at UMKC
Designing courses and having students take those courses can be both an exciting and anxiety-driven process. The UMKC instructional design team is here to help you every step of the way, from conceptualization of your course to putting that final touch on the final week of class. We want to guide you through the process of course development and generate a product that you will be proud of and one that your students will rave about to others.
One of the steps to having a great online class is to go through online course certification. The certification process is research driven and decision made about your course will deal with how students best communicate and learn in an online environment.
The stereotype that online courses are easy persists because instructors lack the proper knowledge or tools to engage students. Online teaching is different from traditional face-to-face teaching. It is not merely self-paced; although one of the benefits to taking an online class is the time a student may take to work with the material. However, engagement needs to be a priority in order to give students a meaningful online learning experience.
We are full of ideas. There are some that may work perfect for your course. Whether you are at the beginning stages of course design/development or need ideas to supplement certain weeks, please seek our help anytime. The most important reason why you want to go through this certification process is to provide the best course for your student – one that engages them with each other and the material.
Why Should I Go Through the Course Certification Process?
There are many benefits to the online course certification process.
The first is the knowledge that your course is one of the best on campus. Your course will receive a special designation in the course catalogue that tells students and others that your course is online certified.
Second, we convey a peace of mind during the process. Many instructors come in nervous because they never taught online or they are unsure how their course will translate in an online environment.
Great! Where Do I Begin?
Start by getting in contact with an instructional designer – either Molly Mead or David Ta-Pryor. They will guide you through the design and development process. If you have a course that you want to certify, please download the rubric and look through the requirements. Once you are ready, all you have to do is fill out the form and we will be in contact with you in less than 48 hours.
