Online Course Management System
What is Moodle?
Moodle is an Open Source Course Management System (CMS), also known as a Learning Management System (LMS) or a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). UMKC Moodle creates courses each semester automatically just like Blackboard. You can access Moodle within Blackboard.umkc.edu or visit the site directly at http://moodle.umkc.edu/
All UMKC Faculty and Students have access to Moodle. You can also setup sites and/or user accounts for non UMKC users. It is simple to setup and cost less. All requests for external (non-UMKC) user accounts who need access to Moodle must come from the site leader or a designated UMKC faculty or staff member. The following procedure must be followed to have the accounts created:
The person requesting the accounts will contact ITS (235-6700 or firstname.lastname@example.org) to have the users enrolled in the Moodle course or organization site. User accounts can be populated with non-UMKC email. For non-UMKC standard courses, support for Moodle is setup on a case by case basis. Support fee structures range from a flat fee, a per call fee or and additional charge per user. Please provide an excel spreadsheet with the first name, last name, email and phone number for each contact.
Fees for enrolling non-UMKC users into Moodle courses or organization sites are as follows:
- $100 flat fee for setup
- $10 maintenance/access fee per user per semester.
Technical services include the following items:
- Temporary student/participant access to the designated Moodle site.
- Availability to the UMKC ITS call center (235-6700 or ITS@umkc.edu) for questions and problem resolution during normal hours of operation.
Please contact ITS@umkc.edu with questions regarding these procedures.
Learn more about Moodle
Moodle is developed by a community of educators and talented software developers. It has a great capacity to grow by listening ideas from community and making them a reality. Some of its features are copied in other commercial products, because they were very intuitive and easy to use.
