Windows Media Streaming Server

The Windows Media Streaming server has been UMKC's primary method of delivering streaming video thus far. A robust solution, the Windows Media server is ideal if your primary audience is on the Windows platform and you do not want your user to have to install the Flash plugin.

Watching Windows Media Server content on a Mac may require additional software such as Flip4Mac

Flash Media Interactive Server

UMKC's newest streaming server, the Flash Media server (in conjunction with the FLV format) offers remarkabale quality at a high compression. If you are looking to stream video to both Windows and Mac computers and want to be able to do so even on low-bandwidth connections, the Flash Media server is your best bet.

Users will be required to install the Flash plugin. Also note that Flash videos are not playable on Apple's iPhone, iPod or iPad devices.

Tegrity Server

Are you looking to record a lecture/presentation so it can be viewed at a later date or shared with students, faculty and staff? If so, the Tegrity coursecasting and podcasting system may be your best bet. To learn more about Tegrity's features and capabilities please contact the UMKC Podcasting team at podcasting@umkc.edu.
