Do you have that "perfect photo" that sums up your study abroad experience? Well, if so, we want it! In fact, we may even pay you for it! The Center for International Academic Programs is pleased to sponsor the third annual study abroad photo contest. Prizes will be offered for the three best photographs submitted, which will then be used in promotional materials for UMKC study abroad programs. Photos should show UMKC students "in action" in their host countries and should somehow represent the ideals of study abroad (academic learning, culture learning, international awareness, sensitivity, and fun). There are three categories in which entries will be placed (follow the links for more information): Scenic, Student in Action, and Wild Card. A first and second prize recipient will be chosen in each category allowing for six student/photographers the opportunity to win a cash prize!
Eligibility: Any UMKC student who has participated in a year, semester or summer study abroad program during the 2007-208 academic year is eligible to enter the photo contest.
Rules for Entry:1. All entries become the property of the Center for International Academic Programs.
2. Students may enter up to 3 photographic prints OR emailed photos. Prints must be 4" x 6".
3. Photos must be accompanied by a title and written description, including: name of photographer, study abroad program and year, name of subject, location and/or event, any other relevant background information.
4. No more than one prize will be awarded to any one student.
5. The Center for International Academic Programs reserves the right to cancel the photo contest in the event that an insufficient number of entries of suitable quality are submitted.
Prizes: Cash prizes (3) First Prize: $75, (3) Second Prize: $25, (3) Honorable Mentions (Study Abroad Globe Photo Clip). Winners will be announced and displayed at the Fall Study Abroad Fair on September 25th from 11am-2pm, Pierson Auditorium. Participants do not have to be present to win this contest. Winning photos will also be displayed on CIAP’s Study Abroad website.
Judging: Photos will be reviewed by a panel consisting of the CIAP staff and UMKC art/photography faculty, whenever possible. Selection criteria include:1. Photographic quality - technical merit (focus, clarity, lighting, etc.)
2. Representation of the study abroad experience
3. Sensitivity toward the host culture
