Pre-Departure Orientations are
mandated by the UM system and provide necessary safety information about
study abroad. Students who do not attend the scheduled orientation or a
make-up session are not approved for UMKC study abroad: If they still do
go, these students go without the benefit, support or approval of UMKC.

documents you can leave for your file: see list below.
Please do not arrive late - we have a lot to
discuss.
-Feel free to review the Pre-Departure
Handbook before the session.
-Parents are welcome!
Please bring the following:
-Copy of passport
-Copy of visa (if applicable)
-Proof of enrollment in the
mandatory UM System HTH study abroad
health insurance plan
using the UMKC HTH access
code
-Copy of itinerary
-Contact information while
abroad (if you know)
-Completed Assumption of Risk & Release Form*
-Completed Health Information Form - if no
issues, please just sign the form*
-Completed Emergency Contact Form*
-Questions!

Topics discussed include Health and Safety Issues in Study Abroad;
Cross-Cultural Adjustment; Administrative Issues such as registration for
courses the semester that students return to UMKC and Travel Safety Tips.
You will finish any final paperwork (emergency contact information, release
forms, etc.) before your departure. Former study abroad participants
will be on hand to fill you in on things they wish they had known before
their big adventure.
According to the UM System, this orientation is mandatory in order to
receive academic credit.
