Academic ProgramsAfter the Adventure!
June, 2006
Dear Study Abroad Program Participant:
On behalf of the entire Study Abroad team at the Center for International Academic Programs, welcome back from your study abroad program! I hope that your experience was both personally and academically rewarding and that you have returned to UMKC with new learning and insight that you will put to good use on campus, in our community, and in your own life wherever it takes you.
Please join us at a "Welcome Home" Reception for Study Abroad Returnees and New Exchange Students on Thursday, August 31st from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. at CIAP (5325 Rockhill Road). It will be a great opportunity to swap stories and share photographs with fellow returnees, exchange students new to UMKC (perhaps friends you recently made in your host country!) and the CIAP staff.
We are very interested in learning about your experience, and ask that you complete the Study Abroad Program Evaluation. Please answer each question as honestly and fully as you can. The information you provide will be used to advise future study abroad students and to help us maintain the quality of our study abroad offerings.
The period of re-entry to the United States after studying abroad can be a time of great learning, but it can also be very stressful. You may find our information about reverse culture shock helpful. We welcome your comments on this information and encourage you to come in and talk with us about your own experience with re-entry.
In addition, if you have not done so already, please update your contact information online so that we can update your local address and phone number and find out which activities you might want to become involved in as a study abroad alum. Please check off any of the activities that interest you so we can contact you with additional information about how you can become involved.
Finally, I welcome your suggestions about activities and programming that would be beneficial to returning study abroad participants. Please feel free to send your comments to me at wozniakkj@umkc.edu. I know that I speak for all of the study abroad advisors in the International Center when I say that we truly look forward to meeting with you face-to-face to hear about your study abroad experience. Please make a point of coming to the International Center to share your adventures, stories, and photos.
Again, welcome back!
Sincerely,
Kate Wozniak
