Where did you study?
Australia
Name of program
AustraLearn
Why did you choose to study there?
I wanted to focus on Aboriginal culture and 20th Century
Australian Literature while ensconced in their native
environments.
What courses did you choose to enroll
in?
Aboriginal Australia, Australian Cities and Regions,
20th and 21st Century Australian Literature
How did you pay for your study abroad
experience?
Loans, scholarships, grants
Did you use some sort of financial
aid, scholarship or fellowship?
Yes
What was your living situation?
Dorm
What did you do for fun?
Take the tram or train to new places I read about.
Favorite aspect of your trip?
Taking the tram everywhere.
Challenges you faced?
Money, loud college students, and money again.
Advice or helpful tips for future
students?
Plan ahead as much as you can, but know that there
really is nothing to prepare you for what you will
experience. It will exceed your expectations but
probably disappoint you in other ways.
What is one thing (if anything) that
you would change about your experience if you could do
it over?
I would have tried to stay with a family versus on
campus. The students in the dorms were mostly freshman
who didn't really have the same motivations as I did for
being there.
Something interesting you learned
about the town you lived in?
It is very, very British compared to many other parts of
Australia.
