Study Abroad at UMKC!
Schools in many countries offer courses taught in
English, or a mix of English and the language of the host country.
Studying overseas is a great way to increase your knowledge and fluency in
a language you've already been studying -- especially if you live with a host
family. An overseas experience adds weight to your resume, too!
Scholarships are available for study abroad programs and in many cases federal
financial aid may also be used. PLEASE NOTE:
***In
accordance with the UM System Guidelines, students
may not participate in study abroad programs in countries with
current
travel warnings issued by the State Department.
Trying to decide where to go? Look under Study Abroad

How do I pay for my Study
Abroad Program?
Federal financial aid and other scholarships and
grants often can be used for a study abroad program. Please speak with the
staff at the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office regarding these issues.
Our office handles several
study
abroad scholarships.
Scholarship competitions for study abroad also
have early deadlines, often in February or March for programs beginning the
following fall, spring, and/or summer. Your best bet is to gather
information early in the fall semester, so you're easily able to meet all
program and scholarship deadlines.

How do I
receive Academic Credit for my program?
While studying abroad, you can earn academic
credit towards your degree at UMKC, both in your academic major and in elective
credit. Be sure to consult your academic advisor before choosing courses
to determine how the credits may transfer back to UMKC.

Where can I Study Abroad?
Programs can last from a few weeks to a year or
longer. You can study for one or two semesters of the academic year.
Shorter programs also are offered during the summer term, many of them in
foreign language study.
Some programs limit the number of students
accepted, so earning a place at those schools can be competitive. Be sure
to allow plenty of time to complete the process of applying for exchange and
study abroad programs, and remember that some have earlier deadlines than
others.

accordance with the UM System Guidelines, students
may not participate in study abroad programs in countries with
current
travel warnings issued by the State Department.
