Now that you've been bitten by the international bug find ways to continue in this exciting field!

Volunteer                                                                    back to top

HELP WELCOME A NEW EUROPEAN EXCHANGE STUDENT: Remember your first few days abroad?  ... the novelties and the uncertainties?  We're looking for a few good volunteers to help make the first few days in the U.S. a little easier for the new incoming international exchange students.  Our exchange students will begin arriving in August.  Many of these new international students are anxious to meet Americans and become familiar with American culture as well as the UMKC campusWould you be able to take some time to meet students from around the globe and help them feel welcome in Kansas City?  If you are interested in helping and would like more information, please contact the study abroad coordinator as soon as possible and we will set it up for you!  international@umkc.edu

BE A PEER ADVISOR: Many recent returnees have expressed a desire to talk to student groups or volunteer in our office in order to promote study abroad while sharing their knowledge and experience.  We are in the preliminary stages of implementing a Study Abroad PEER ADVISOR program.  This would possibly be a commitment of 4 hours per month for one semester, depending on interest.  We would advertise on our website that Peer Advisors would be available at certain times.  This volunteer assignment could include helping out in the Study Abroad Resource Center, the Study Abroad Fair, freshman orientations and other campus events.  It may also include some marketing and project management, such as the upcoming photo contest.  We also need perspective from “returnees” at study abroad pre-departure and information sessions.  It’s a wonderful way to put your experience to use.  If you have an interest in becoming a PA, please email me your interest area and availability for fall semester 2006.  As we develop a program we will let you know the timing of the application process and other details.  A Study Abroad Peer Advisor is a great resume builder and a wonderful way for you to share your life changing international experience.  If you are interested in helping and would like more information, please contact the study abroad coordinator as soon as possible and we will set it up for you!  international@umkc.edu
