The Center for International Academic Programs provides the following list of international internship sites and resources for interested students. Interning and volunteering abroad are exciting ways to build your professional skills while experiencing another culture. Please note that many internships are NOT paid.
At UMKC it is possible to receive academic credit for your experience, but you must obtain prior approval from CIAP and your academic advisor in order to do so. Financial aid may be possible if the program is approved by CIAP.

Central Intelligence Agency
http://www.odci.gov/employment/student.htmlThe Central Intelligence Agency operates a paid internship program located in Washington DC for both undergrad and graduate students. Internship positions are highly competitive as well as require background checks.
International Monetary Fund

The IMF accepts 15 – 20 undergraduate students and 20 – 30 graduate students per year for the Fund’s paid summer internship program. This program is located in Washington DC and is only for students studying economics.
Peace Corps

Kennedy challenged students at the University of Michigan to serve their country in the cause of peace by living and working in developing countries. The Peace Corp offers several dynamic and long term volunteer experiences throughout the world. Eligibility differs with educational level and focus of study.

USAID has a limited number of Summer 2005 internships available in a few of our overseas missions in sub-Saharan Africa as well as in Washington, C.C. This is an excellent opportunity for outstanding student interested in pursuing career in international development.

U.S. Department of State
http://www.careers.state.gov/student/The Department of State offers an array of opportunities for internships, domestic and abroad. To qualify, students must be U.S. citizen and in good academic standing, also they must have completed 60 or more credit hours by the time the internship begins.Duties of an internState Department interns may work on a variety of issues, including human rights, trade negotiations, and consular affairs. Others may research economic or environmental issues, or write on projects involving arms control, infectious diseases, and remote sensing. Those interested in administrative management may use their expertise working on projects involving human resources, information systems, or general logistical support to posts abroad.Types of InternshipsDomestic: Most internships are with the State Department in Washington D.C. There are a few other large cities in the U.S. that may have job availability.Overseas: Some internships are also available at U.S. embassies and consulates abroad.Length of InternshipsState Department interns usually serve for a semester or quarter during the academic school year, or for a minimum of 10 weeks in the summer. All interns work a 40 hour week.Salary and BenefitsThe majority of all State Department internships are unpaid. CDS International
http://www.cdsintl.org/CDS International (CDS), founded in 1968, is a non-profit organization committed to the advancement of international practical training opportunities for young professionals, students, educators, as well as labor, business and government representatives. CDS started out small, arranging internships in U.S. companies for young German professionals and exchanging farmers between Germany and the United States. Today, CDS serves almost 1,400 individuals annually from over 50 other countries in Europe, Asia and South America in a variety of work/study, internship, and study tour programs. - taken from the CDS International website.
CDS International offers internship programs in Central Europe and Australia. There are no language requirements as the program begins with intensive language instruction, but most of their programs are for graduate students.United Nations

Most internships offered through the United Nations are for graduate students with a language proficiency other than English.
World Bank

The World Bank offers paid summer internships programs for students who have already acquired a BA, and who will be entering a graduate program in any of the following fields: economics, finance, human development, anthropology, sociology, agriculture, and the environment.
Arcadia University

Butler University

There are no language requirements, nor do you need to be a student at Butler University, but all of these internships require a 3.0 GPA or higher.

Japan Exchange and Teaching Program

Applicants must hold a bachelors degree at time of departure. This is a paid position teaching English for a full year.
