Key Information Approximate cost of experience - $2,500 plus tuition




To Apply

All interested students must:

  • Complete an application and pay a non-refundable $1000 deposit by March 12, 2012

  • Pay the remainder of the fee’s by June 17, 2012

  Medical Mission UMKC Experience
Goals Help those in need Understand another healthcare system and culture
Primary Purpose Provide an intense level of care over a short period of time to people in extreme need Learn about the healthcare system of Honduras, both public and private, in both rural and urban settings
Secondary Purpose Provide an avenue for service by participants Learn about the people, culture of Honduras, and the challenges of language barriers
Typical Activity
  • Work in a rural setting
  • Provide services daily, usually all day
  • Provide care to a large number of patients
  • May visit a local attraction
  • Work in well established rural clinic and an urban hospital
  • Care provided in conjunction with local health professionals (HCP
  • Daily class time
  • Spend weekends at local attractions
Other Differences
  • Usually take large quantities of medicines and supplies
  • Sponsored by a religious or humanitarian organization
  • Local people provide support to mission team
  • Majority of time spent with the other team members
  • Health insurance coverage in foreign country responsibility of team member
  • Take little to no supplies
  • Sponsored exclusively by UMKC
  • Students work side-by-side with local healthcare professionals
  • There may be times when you are working exclusively with local HCPs
