ACT

The UMKC Institute for Professional Preparation offers a test preparation program for the October, December, April, and June ACT exams. This program is open to all students, not just those planning to attend UMKC. This University-based program is designed for both first-time and repeat test-takers who want to maximize their ACT scores. Program goals include helping students to identify their strengths and weaknesses not only in content areas, but also in test-taking skills and reading comprehension. College instructors trained in English, math, and science will facilitate small groups of students. Proven techniques in time management and test-taking skills along with review of content are key elements. A diagnostic test, take-home practice questions, vocabulary reviews, and simulated ACT tests provide feedback to the students and their instructors. The classes are designed to provide students with strategies and techniques for approaching the different sections of the ACT. Although some subject area review is incorporated into the classes, the classes are not intended to "tutor" students who are academically unprepared to take the ACT. It is strongly recommended that students who are lacking in the content areas (especially reading and math), receive tutoring elsewhere, in order to bring their skills up to the appropriate grade level. The Fall classes begin in early September and mid October. The Spring classes begin in early February and early April. Specific information concerning dates, time, location, and cost, are on the applications which are available below.
