Two Week Step 3 USMLE Review: 2008-2009 Dates:
November 3 to November 14, 2008 April 6 to April 17, 2009 June 8 to June 19, 2009 The University of Missouri-Kansas City Institute for Professional Preparation will be offering an intensive review program for the USMLE Step 3 examination. The program will cover the key clinical science concepts which most heavily impact STEP 3 performance. This is a two-week, Monday-Friday program, running from 8 am to 6 pm and all day Saturday and Sunday. The schedule will include the following components.
Question Group.
Groups of
approximately 6 students meeting once a day to analyze and respond
to board-type questions with a trained staff facilitator. The goal
is to familiarize participants with the format of these types of
questions, develop for each participant a systematic approach to
questions that is the most effective for that person. Case Presentations. Different participants will present each day. During a planning session, the content will be selected by the group to build a matrix of information. The presenter will create a clinical scenario, question the group members and then, add information to complete the clinical picture.
Test Review.
Groups of students meet with a trained facilitator to evaluate
errors on mock board exams. Lunch,
Rest, and Recreation.
Daily time is set aside for lunch and planned physical activity. The
program provides access to the campus recreational center, which has
an outstanding variety of options including weight rooms, nautilus
equipment, basketball and racquetball courts, an Olympic size
swimming pool, and sauna. The University's Counseling Center staff
is also available by appointment. Screening.
Screening procedures seek to identify learning or academic problems,
which may have impeded participants in their performance on
licensure examinations in the past. Educational strategies are
suggested to help correct these problems. Mock boards. Examinations are administered on one weekend to give students an opportunity to use their new academic skills and strategies in practice for the testing event. Tuition is $1,950. Housing costs are additional. To complete
the application process, the following items must be received two
weeks prior to the beginning of a program: 1. An on-line application form. 2. Copies of
previous licensure score reports. 3. A personal
statement concerning your test history. 4. Other information which will help us be helpful to you, for example, copies of your previous board scores, if applicable, and a copy of your medical school transcript. Suggestions for review: The following suggestions are for students who are unable to attend our course and request suggestions on how to prepare for the STEP 3 examination. 1. Do timed sets of questions. Pay special attention in determining why you miss questions you thought you would get correct. 2. Spend your time preparing for the management of common diseases. 3. Become very proficient on the USMLEs computer program by spending a great deal of time working with the disk that they send you (which can also be downloaded from www.usmle.org )
