UMKC UserID (SSO) Information

All UMKC students, faculty and staff are assigned a unique UserID (sometimes called an SSO or username). A UserID is the ID needed to access most UMKC technology resources. All UMKC students, faculty and staff are provided with a UserID.

Student UserIDs

Student UserIDs consist of a student's initials and three random characters to ensure uniqueness.

If you don't know your UserID, please contact the UMKC IS Call Center.

New students must activate their UserID and set up a password before the UserID can be used. Most new students set up passwords during Orientation or as part of the admission process, but if you haven't done that yet, you can set up your password with the Pathway system. You will need the "temporary" password that was emailed to you when you were applying to the University.

If you don't have your temporary password, visit our password assistance page and follow the steps to Reset/Create your password. You can also visit this page to find information about how to change your password.

Faculty/Staff UserIDs

Faculty/staff UserIDs usually consist of last name and first initial. New faculty and staff have UserIDs generated the day following generation of an employee ID by UMKC Human Resources.

If you don't know your UserID, please contact your departmental IT Liaison or the UMKC IS Call Center. Make sure to have your EMPLID available when you call. If you don't know your EMPLID, contact your departmental HR representative or UMKC Human Resources.

To learn more about your password, including how to change or reset it, please refer our password assistance page.

What Can I Do With My UserID?

UserIDs provide access to Blackboard, Pathway, computer labs, wireless systems, faculty and staff email and many other resources.

Students use their UserID to activate their student Outlook Live email account, but use their Windows Live ID to access email once the account is activated. Please refer to the Outlook Live FAQ for more information about the student email system.

Faculty and staff use their UserIDs to access their employee Exchange email account. Please refer to the Exchange FAQ for more information about the Exchange email system.
