Surplus and Computer Disposal
|
| All university computer hardware and software must be properly retired when
it has reached the end of its usable life. UM System policy requires special
handling of these items before they are discarded or released as surplus
material to be sold at auction. Of particular concern is data stored on computers, network printers, and other devices with any kind of storage medium. The data must be securely erased to ensure it cannot be accessed by a third party once the university divests itself of the equipment. Thus, UMKC Information Services or your IT Liaison must manage the secure erasure process. If you have questions or need assistance with retiring old computer equipment, please contact the Call Center or your IT Liaison as appropriate. |
