Managing Quotas
To make sure all students receive equal access to UMKC's computer resources, students are given limits on how much of a given resource they can use. These limits are called quotas.

There are five different quotas:

Print Quota
Students can print 150 pages per week. Print quotas are reset every Saturday night.

If you run out of print quota, you can go to the Information Commons on the first floor of the Miller Nichols Library and purchase a copy card to pay for additional printing.

To avoid accidentally printing too much of your quota at once, documents must be printed in increments of 75 pages at a time.

Managing Your Email Storage Quota
Students can store up to 50 Megabytes of email in their account.

All of your email messages count against your email storage space quota.

Roaming Profile Space
Students are given storage space to preserve their customized settings. This customized computer profile will follow you as you switch between computers, so it is called your “roaming profile.”

What is a "Roaming Profile?"

Roaming profile space includes IE Favorites, Java applets, custom settings for applications, and Windows settings. For example, if you want to display a specific picture as your desktop background, you would save the image file on your desktop or in the “My Documents” folder on the desktop. You would then set the picture as the background through the “Display Properties” window. Any computer you use that loads your roaming profile would then automatically display your selected background.

Roaming Profiles and Log On/Off Times

Whenever you log on to a machine, the computer goes through your roaming profile, loading all of your customized settings. When you log off, the computer updates your roaming profile. The more files you store in your roaming profile space, the longer it will take for you to log on or off from a computer.

To keep your log on/off times from taking excessively long, students are limited to 25 Megabytes of roaming profile storage space.

How to manage your roaming profile: the "Profile Space Exceeded" error.

Q:\ Drive Storage Space
UMKC provides students with 200 Megabytes of storage space for their data. This space is located on the Q:\ drive of the computers managed by UMKC.

When you enroll at UMKC, a folder is created on the Q:\ drive, labeled with your username. Q:\ drive storage space is used for storing documents and data files.

Web Page Storage Space
Student web page data is stored on the N:\ drive.
