The following policies are in place in order to provide the best
environment possible for UMKC Students using the General Use Computer Labs.
Patrons are also reminded to follow all of UMKC's policies regarding Computer Usage and the Student
Code of Conduct.

Code of Conduct
The General Use Student Computer Labs managed by the Information Services
department are provided as a resource for UMKC
students to complete computer-based coursework and assignments. Any
conduct or activity which disturbs the lab environment is not
allowed. Anyone causing a continual disturbance will be asked to
leave the labs. If the Student Assistants in charge of protecting the
lab and the lab environment judge the offense to be serious enough, they will call Campus Police to help resolve the situation.

Children: Minors are not allowed in the computer labs
(this includes infants).
- The Labs are full of delicate equipment,
- A distraction-free environment is needed for students to do their work, and
- Computers must be left available for UMKC Student use.

Closing
- Printers are turned off 15 minutes before the labs close, and
- All Students must leave the lab when directed by a Student Assistant.

Disks and Thumb Drives
Lab patrons must bring their own diskettes and/or thumb drives if needed.
Thumb drives can be plugged in to the USB ports on the front of the CPU or on the sides of some monitors.
Please ask a Student Assistant for help if you have trouble locating a USB port.

Equipment
- Only authorized technicians are allowed to make modifications to lab equipment.
Please do not unplug any wires from the machines, as this causes wear and tear on the machine and the wiring.
- Scanners, mice, keyboards, etc. are not allowed to be moved.
- Thumb drives are permissible on machines with a USB port located
on the front of the CPU or on the side of the monitor where it is easily accessible.
- No other devices may be plugged
in to the network or electrical outlets in any IS-managed lab. This includes laptops.
- Changes to software configuration or installation of new software is restricted.
If you are a faculty member and need to have software added or reconfigured on IS-lab machines,
please fill out the
Software Change/Addition Request form.

Food & Drink are not allowed in the labs.
- Any food or drink brought into the lab must be in a sealed container
and kept in your bag.
- Eating and drinking in the labs is prohibited.

| PR7 |
Irate Behavior
- Persons exhibiting hostile or threatening behavior such as yelling,
swearing, or disregarding requests made by lab personnel will be asked to
leave the labs. Campus Police may be called upon to mediate these situations.

Noise Levels
- Any activity which causes enough noise to be disturbing the other
students working in the labs must be discontinued or corrected.
- When talking, please keep all voices down so as to not disturb
students working in the labs.
- Everyone must use headphones when listening to sounds on the computers
and keep the noise level down so that it does not disturb the other
students working in the labs.
- Cell phones are not allowed to be used within the
labs.

Priority of Use The computer labs are designated for Academic Use.
- Students needing to use computers to complete academic assignments are
given priority to those using the computers for recreation.
- Students needing to use special equipment or software are
given priority for using those machines (scanners, zip drives, or Supernova access).

Assistance from Campus
Police
- If the Student Assistants in charge of protecting the lab and
the lab environment judge any offense to be serious enough, they will call Campus Police for assistance in resolving the situation.
- If a person within the lab is refusing to follow lab policies,
the Student Assistants may also call Campus Police for assistance.

Use of Lab Supplies
- Supplies contained in the computer lab must be
used within the computer lab only.
- Blank paper may not be taken from the lab unless it has been counted against your print quota.

Lab Storage
- Materials contained within IS General Use
Computer Labs must be directly related to lab function.
- The labs may not be used as storage facilities by
faculty/staff/students.
- This includes class-related materials and paraphernalia.

Animals
- Only service animals are allowed within the labs.
