Information Services (IS) manages several computer labs that can be reserved for classes that require computers.

These labs are located in:

  • Royall Hall (RH) rooms 314 or 303, and
  • The Health Sciences Building (HSB) room 3304.
Scheduling Classes

Information Services strives to assist faculty with their classroom needs while also meeting the needs of the majority of the student body.  Please remember that these sites are first and foremost General Use Student Computer Labs.

  • On the Volker Campus, Royall Hall room 314 has 20 workstations and room 303 has 24.
(For Volker Campus reservations, please use RH 314 if at all possible).
  • On the Hospital Hill Campus, the HSB 3304 lab has 30.

These rooms are subject to all IS lab policies.

You can check here to see the current listing of lab reservations.

Lab Reservation Policies

Please observe the following policies when requesting a reservation:

  • The labs can only be reserved for conducting ad hoc (one-time only) classes that require the use of computers.

  • Note: the HSB 3304 lab is also used for weekly testing.  During test times, the lab can not be reserved for ad hoc classes.  These times are:

    • Mondays, 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
    • Tuesdays, 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
    • Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.
    • Thursdays, 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
    • Fridays, 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
  • Labs can only be reserved during regularly scheduled lab hours.
  • Only one room may be scheduled for a class at a time on each campus.
  • Reservations must be made at least two weeks in advance of the desired date.
  • The reserving faculty member is responsible for the conduct of the class and must be on site at all times during the reservation.
    • If you need to vacate the site early, please notify the Student Assistant on duty.
    • Please contact Amanda Ash at x5487 as early as possible should you need to discuss any changes to or cancel your reservation.
Faculty Responsibilities

Faculty using an IS-managed lab as a classroom are responsible for:

  • Filling out the "Software Change/Addition Request Form" and following all applicable guidelines if new software or changes to existing software is needed
(When opening this document, if you are asked for your Network password, click on "Cancel" and the document should open),
  • Enforcing IS lab policies during the reserved time,
  • Supervising lab equipment during the reserved time,
  • Remaining in the lab throughout the duration of the reserved time,
  • Making sure that the labs are vacated in a timely manner, especially if the labs are closing right after class ends, and
  • Notifying the Student Assistants that class has ended and the site has been vacated.
AV Equipment

If you need any special AV equipment, please contact the Information Services AV department at x8000 in advance so that they can provide what you need.

  • Student Assistants can not provide support for or acquire any AV equipment.
  • Problems with AV equipment should be directed to the AV department at x8000.

If you are planning to use the projector located within Royall Hall room 303, we strongly recommend that you visit the site prior to your class and experiment with the equipment to make sure you understand its operation.  Student Assistants are not trained in how to use this equipment and can not provide assistance on this device.

Technical Assistance

Please contact the Student Assistants working at the lab for technical assistance regarding the computers during classes.

  • Please note that Student Assistants are only allowed to assist faculty and students using the equipment within the computer labs.
  • Student Assistants are not permitted to leave the labs to provide support elsewhere in the building.
Reservation Form

To reserve an IS-managed lab for a class, please fill out the reservation form at least two weeks in advance so that we can notify students and give them time to plan accordingly.

Reservations are good for one class only, not for ongoing classes.
