Software Installation Guidelines for the Ideal Learning Environment (ILE) Classrooms

Information Services, Multimedia Technology Services (MTS) has equipped a number of classrooms with multimedia software and hardware. There is a standardized suite of software on the Instructor’s computer, which includes the Microsoft Windows 2000 Operating System, Microsoft Office 2000, standard Internet browsers, and connectivity software, such as IBM Host on Demand.  Software to operate the projection equipment is also installed, as well as software for the PolyCom camera system.

All the above software is licensed and maintained by UMKC Information Services. Use of the software must comply with the Acceptable Use Policy as published by the University of Missouri on the web at this location:

Additional software can be installed using one of two methods.  The first method is for Information Services staff, to install the additional software on all Instructors’ computers.  This method requires notice to Information Services at least thirty (30) days prior to the beginning of the new semester.  Funding and proper licensing for such software must be secured before the software will be installed.  The software will then be incorporated in the standard computer configuration and available at the beginning of the new semester.

The second installation method is for software that will be used on a limited, temporary basis.  Temporary usage is defined as software installed for a limited number of class sessions on a single Instructor’s computer in one classroom.  Installation of temporary software requires notice to Information Services at least five (5) working days prior to actual use.  The instructor requesting the use of the software also must provide the software media and proper licensing, in compliance with the Acceptable Use Policy mentioned above.  The request must include the number of class sessions that the software will be used.  Information Services staff will install the software on the designated computer and make it available to the requesting instructor.  The software will be removed when usage is completed, according to the request for installation.

All requests for software should be directed to the UMKC Call Center at 816-235-2000.
