The following information may be used to support
Windows computers through the switch to Daylight
Savings Time on its new date of March 11.
For campus machines, UMKC Information Services has already deployed the
necessary patches to update your Microsoft operating systems and email
clients. However, if you maintain non-UMKC or offline Windows
computers, the information provided below should ensure a smooth and
successful transition to the new Daylight Savings Time laws. In
addition, information is provided for updating your Windows Mobile or
PocketPC devices as well. These updates will likely need to be
installed manually on each affected system you maintain.
Supported Microsoft operating systems - Requires the
February 2007 cumulative
Time Zone Update for Microsoft operating systems
This would be used for any non-networked, non-domain systems,
including servers, you may support. It has already been applied to domain
computers receiving WSUS updates at UMKC. Note Microsoft no longer
provides non-security hot fixes for Windows 2000 and older operating systems. If
you maintain these older operating systems, you will need to manually reset the
time on March 11, 2007, and then revisit the time settings on April 1, 2007.
Microsoft Outlook - Requires the
Microsoft Outlook Time Zone Data Update Tool
This update will be update individual
calendar/appointment items that should be addressed in light of the DST
change. This may be useful for systems using Outlook, but not
necessarily Exchange. It has already been applied to those UMKC systems
using Outlook to connect to Exchange.
The most straightforward method requires user to have
device in sync cradle; however, it is possible to update a device that only
synchronizes over wireless as well. See the article for more details. This
update will be required on any Windows Mobile system you support.
For other Microsoft applications, please refer to the
Microsoft DST Portal for
more details and complete information.
