Remote Desktop → Android Instructions

The following page(s) contain instructions on using Remote Desktop to connect to Faculty & Staff Windows computers on the UMKC campus (from off-campus).

Attention: Your campus computer must be powered on and you must also have rights to access your computer remotely. You must also follow these steps (one time only) to ensure your campus computer is ready to accept Remote Desktop connections. If you need assistance, please contact the IS Call Center or your IT Liaison.

Android Remote Desktop Connection Instructions

Please note: The instructions below are an example of how to use the free version of the Microsoft Remote Desktop app These instructions are subject to change as Microsoft releases updates to the app. Actual steps will differ depending on which RDP app you decide to use.
  1. Open the Microsoft Remote Desktop App
  2. Tap +
  3. Tap Connection name
  4. Enter a connection name such as UMKC
  5. Tap Next
  6. Enter the name of the remote computer to connect to. If you are unable to determine the name of your campus (office) computer, contact the IS Call Center or your IT Liaison
  7. Tap Done
  8. Tap Gateway
  9. Tap Add gateway
  10. Tap Gateway name
  11. Enter UMKC
  12. Tap Next
  13. Enter tsg.umkc.edu
  14. Tap Next
  15. Tap Next (do not enter a username)
  16. Tap Done (do not enter a password)
  17. Tap the Checkmark in the upper right corner
  18. Tap User Name
  19. Type ‘umkc-users\’ followed by your SSO username (e.g.umkc-users\doej)
  20. Tap Next
  21. Optional: If you choose to store your password, it is strongly recommended that you password protect your device. Type your SSO Password. Note: you will need to update your Remote Desktop settings every time you change your SSO password.
  22. Tap Done
  23. Tap the Checkmark in the upper right corner
  24. To open the Remote Desktop session, tap UMKC under Remote Desktops
  25. Note: if you did not store your password (step 21), you will be prompted to enter your password.
  26. If you are warned about an untrusted certificate, tap Trust Always
If you have not recently connected to this computer there will be a delay as your profile is created. This is normal.
