If you are in one of the visa categories listed above and one of the following options is relevant to your situation, you may qualify to pay Missouri Resident Tuition/Fees during your studies at UMKC. Please read these options carefully to ensure that your situation matches the information given.

Option 1: Part-time Study (This does not pertain to F-1 and J-1 students)
Students in the visa types listed above may enroll part-time at UMKC and will be responsible for paying Missouri Resident Tuition/Fees during their part-time studies.
A part-time student may enroll in up to:
  • 3 credit hours or less during Summer Semester
  • 6 credit hours or less during Fall Semester
  • 6 credit hours or less during Spring Semester
Students who enroll in more than 3 credit hours during the Summer Semester or more than 6 credit hours during the Fall or Spring Semesters will be responsible for paying the non-resident tuition fees if they do not qualify for paying the resident tuition / fees as described in Option 2.

Option 2: Qualify for the Missouri Tax Scholarship
If you are in the USA on a visa type listed above and your spouse/parent worked in the state of Missouri during the entire preceding tax year and have a Missouri income tax liability, you might qualify for the Missouri Tax Scholarship.

You should submit your own or your spouse/parent’s Missouri Individual Tax Return Form from the preceding tax year and the Missouri Tax Scholarship Application Form to the Cashiers Office to be considered for the scholarship. The scholarship amount applied to a student account will reflect the amount of the tax liability up to the non-resident fees charged. It will not exceed the tax liability for the academic year. Please contact the Cashiers Office if you have questions.

You may only qualify to pay resident tuition each year of your studies as long as your Missouri Tax Scholarship Application Form continues to reflect Missouri income tax liability for the entire preceding tax year.

Download the Missouri Tax Scholarship form here.

Submit this application with the Missouri tax documents to the UMKC Cashiers office in the Administrative Center.

If you have additional questions about your UMKC tuition and fees, please contact the Cashiers Office at phone: 816-235-1365 or by email: cashiers@umkc.edu.
