Learn things about archival issues you didn't learn in kindergarten. This symposium is designed for archivists and also for individuals who do not work with historical or archival materials on a regular basis. Part of the sessions will guide non-archivists who occasionally encounter archival materials in the course of their work and assist them in making appropriate decisions about their collecting and access policies. Other session will deal with advanced archival issues for those who have gotten beyond the basics. Presenters will offer practical suggestions about what to do and what to avoid with archival materials. Issues covered will include security, planning and decision making about acquisitions reappraisal, and deaccessioning. There will also be sessions which focus on the use and promotion of holdings and discuss sources of grant funding.
