HISTORY

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) Office was launched in July 2003 as the LGBT Initiative in order to establish a physical presence for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals at UMKC.

A break-through project of the UMKC Diversity in Action Plan (Project 6), the mission of the LGBT Office is to celebrate and honor the culture, history and accomplishments of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people.

The LGBT Advisory Board provides valuable guidance and direction to the LGBT Office.

UMKC is one of 90+ universities in the United States with a professionally staffed LGBT office or center.
