Leadership training
Our office provides student leaders with the skills needed to effectively lead their organizations and have a positive presence on campus and in the community. The goal is to enhance skills for current student leaders, and to encourage campus involvement from new students.
Topics include:
- Roles and responsibilities
- Policies and procedures
- University relations
- Fundraising
- Effective leadership
In addition, the training will encompass follow up workshops addressing other elements that are essential to student leadership.
Expected student outcomes:
- Gain an understanding of their roles at student leaders on campus
- Learn how to set an example that will inspire other students to get involved on campus
- Learn the importance of collaboration and networking
- Produce effective leaders that will produce quality events that will help improve the college experience for other students

Community service and outreach
Participants will develop knowledge in the following areas:
- How to look for projects that align with your purpose
- Effective communication – written and verbal (understanding expectations)
- Networking and collaboration
- Documentation and evaluation
Organizational history
Participants will develop knowledge in the following areas:
- Purpose
- Constitution and bylaws
- Local and campus history
- Reframing a legacy
Meeting procedure
Participants will develop knowledge in the following areas:
- Developing an agenda
- Parliamentary procedure (Robert’s Rules of Order)
- Officer and committee reports (written and verbal)
- Establishing accountability
Professionalism
Participants will develop knowledge in the following areas:
- Attire
- Types of communication (e-mails, formal letters, memos, voicemails, etc.)
- Respect others' time
- Follow-up
- Documentation
Event planning
Participants will develop knowledge in the following areas:
- Developing a timeline
- Developing budget
- Securing funding
- Advisements
- Task lists
- Goals and outcomes
- Evaluations
