About us

The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) Department of Public Relations, reporting to the Office of the Chancellor, promotes UMKC’s mission and identity through a variety of media.

We partner with university departments, schools and centers to ensure UMKC’s messages consistently and accurately reach the public through multiple venues. We develop relationships with reporters and editors at local, state and national media outlets to advance UMKC, as well as with external constituents who have a vested interest in the University. Our team also provides media training (one-on-one and group) and crisis communications counsel.

Communication practices include news releases, online news features, video, photography, UMatters – an electronic publication for staff and faculty, UMKC Experts Guide and social media sites – Twitter and Facebook.

PR’s Executive Writers provide research and writing for UMKC executive leadership. Projects include speeches, presentations, announcements, research, briefs, non-scholarly articles and correspondence.
