UMKC's Chen Yi one of 18 leading composers commissioned by Seattle Symphony

UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance professor and world-renowned composer Chen Yi has been commissioned to create a new work, along with 17 other leading American composers, as part of the Gund/Simonyi Farewell Commissions project by the Seattle Symphony. The 18 American composers will compose new works for the 2010-11 season in honor of director Gerard Schwartz. All of the composers commissioned have had a long-standing relationship with Maestro Schwartz.
