School of Law honors Constitution Day

Professor June Carbone presents "Federalization in an Age of Polarization: Red Families v. Blue Families"

The UMKC School of Law is honoring Constitution Day with a presentation by Professor June Carbone, Edward A. Smith/Missouri Chair of Law, the Constitution and Society. She will speak about “Federalization in an Age of Polarization: Red Families v. Blue Families”. The presentation will take place noon on Friday, Sept.17 at the UMKC School of Law Student Lounge, 500 E. 52nd St., Kansas City, Mo.

Professor Carbone co-wrote “Red Families v. Blue Families: Legal Polarization and the Creation of Culture,” which identifies a new family model geared for the post-industrial economy. Featuring groundbreaking research first hailed in The New Yorker, this book could transform peoples' understanding of contemporary American culture and law. The authors show how the Red-Blue divide goes much deeper than this value system conflict. The Red States have increasingly said "no" to Blue State legal norms, and as a result, family law has become divided.
