Chancellor Leo Morton presents Nancy Mills with the Chancellor’s Award for Career Contributions to the University.

Extraordinary work and talent

21 faculty and staff honored for outstanding achievements

Twenty one UMKC faculty and staff received UMKC's top honors yesterday afternoon, February 15, at a university-wide ceremony, Celebrating Excellence. The 20 awards, nine of which are new for 2010, recognize outstanding achievements in research and creative activity, teaching, student mentoring, service and engagement.

"Celebrating Excellence is a way to honor and to fully appreciate the extraordinary work and talent that our university community offers our students and the greater community," Provost Gail Hackett told the audience in Spencer Theatre at the James C. Olson Performing Arts Center. "These awards reflect not only the exceptional research, teaching and service that go on each day in every academic unit and division at our university, but they also point the way toward UMKC's future and toward the goals that we set for ourselves – as individuals and as an institution."

Celebrating Excellence, which will become an annual February event, was hosted by Provost Hackett. Presenting the awards were Chancellor Leo Morton; UM System President Gary Forsee; Mel Tyler, Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management; Ron MacQuarrie, Dean of Graduate Studies; Dr. Lynda Bonewald, Curators' Professors and Interim Vice Chancellor for Research; Carol Hintz, Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources; and Crisanne Arnold, President of Staff Council.
