Graduate Assistance Fund recipient's collection debuts at Miller Nichols Library

The UMKC Women's Council hosted a reception to kick off "ArtWork by Nicole Emanuel" on Sept. 14. The exhibit will run through December at the Miller Nichols Library second-floor Dean's Gallery, 800 East 51st St.

A 2009 Women's Council Graduate Assistance Fund (GAF) recipient, Emanuel is working toward a Liberal Studies master's degree in writing and painting in the UMKC School of Graduate Studies. Almost 1,500 women graduate students at UMKC have received GAF fellowships or immediate aid awards. Established in 1971, the GAF provides financial support to women enrolled in graduate programs and the Schools of Dentistry, Law, Medicine and Pharmacy.

Emanuel also is founder and artistic developer at InterUrban Arthouse, the 2011 ArtsKC Awards Featured Artist, Artsmart and Cultural Arts Committee Chair at Briarwood Elementary in Prairie Village, Kan. and owner and operator of Nicole Emanuel Studios. Emanuel earned a bachelor's degree in Design and Industry from San Francisco State University and a bachelor of fine arts degree from the Kansas City Art Institute.
