Program reflects UMKC's ongoing commitment to promote health and fitness

KANSAS CITY, MO -- The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) will hold a special kick-off event for UMKC Forever Fit, a 10-week wellness initiative established to promote a culture of wellness throughout the University and the community. The Forever Fit launch will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 20, in the UMKC Student Union Theatre, 5100 Cherry Street, KCMO.

UMKC Forever Fit is offered in conjunction with the Kansas City Slimdown Challenge, sponsored by Cerner Corp., which invites community participants to build teams and work toward losing weight for a chance to win weekly random drawings (donated by Cerner) and a grand prize luxury vacation valued at $4,500.

UMKC employees who join the competition will be part of the UMKC team, which will compete with other employers across the metro in the pursuit of a healthier Kansas City. Over the course of the program, the UMKC Forever Fit program will include activities and sessions on a variety of wellness topics. At each session, the UMKC Human Resources office will sponsor random drawings for prizes, gift cards and more.

The July 20 event will include a weigh-in for participants, rally and keynote address by Michelle Robin, D.C., Chief Wellness Officer and founder of Your Wellness Connection healing center in Shawnee, KS, and author of "Wellness on a Shoestring - Seven Habits for a Healthy Life."
