March 17 deadline to attend annual women’s health care symposiumThe University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Nursing is co-sponsoring the 31st annual Women’s Health Care Symposium April 6 and 7 at the Westin Crown Center Hotel in Kansas City. Organizers are now accepting registrations until March 17.
Nationally recognized speakers Barb Bancroft, R.N., M.S.N., P.N.P., and Sharon Schnare, R.N., F.N.P., C.N.M., M.S.N., will be featured at the event.
Bancroft is noted for her humorous, entertaining and information-packed seminars. She is author of the books Medical Minutiae, An Apple a Day—the ABCs of Diet and Disease and Live a Little, Laugh a Lot. She is currently the executive director of CPP Associates, Inc., a continuing education firm for health care professionals based in Chicago.
Sharon Myoji Schnare is a clinical instructor in the Department of Family and Child Nursing at the University of Washington, and she is a clinician in women’s, adolescent, and family health care in private practice in Port Orchard, Wash. She was director of the Harbor-UCLA Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner Program for nine years and has developed workshops and clinical practicums for presentation in the U.S. and abroad.
The two-day symposium is approved for 13.2 contact hours, or 15 contact hours with endometrial biopsy practicum. Program sessions will focus on areas such as metabolic syndrome, sexuality dysfunction and enhancement, evidence-based techniques to motivate healthy choices, cervical cancer vaccine, enhancing effective communication with adolescents, and more.
Development Systems Inc. (DSI) is co-sponsoring the event as it has done for the last 30 years; however, this year marks the first year the conference will be co-sponsored with UMKC. In years before, the University of Kansas was co-sponsor.

Registration fees are: $220 for nurses, advanced practice nurses and other health care professionals; $200 for Title X nurses, UMKC School of Nursing faculty and preceptors; $110 for residents and students (with written verification); $50 for endometrial biopsy practicum; and $45 for endometrial biopsy practicum for Title X nurses, UMKC School of Nursing faculty, preceptors and students.
Commercial vendors are invited to exhibit at the symposium.
