Free lecture for prostate cancer caregivers Oct. 27

The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) Psychology Department invites people to a free lunch and lecture from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 27 at 4827 Troost, room 214e.

The talk is titled “Problem Solving Therapy for Prostate Cancer Caregivers.” Guest lecturer is nationally recognized health psychologist Vanessa Lynne Malcarne, Ph.D.

A professor of psychology at San Diego State University, Malcarne’s expertise is in adjustment to chronic illness in children and adults; measurement of ethnic identity and acculturation; as well as ethnicity and psychopathology. She is a fellow in the Society of Behavioral Medicine, and associate editor for the journal Health Psychology and Cognitive Therapy and Research.

“Dr. Malcarne is a leader in our field and having her come to UMKC would be a wonderful thing for our department and the larger community of health psychologists in the Kansas City area,” Diane Filion, Ph.D., chair of the UMKC Department of Psychology, said.

The talk is part of UMKC’s Department of Psychology’s Bernard Lubin Lecture Series, supported by the Bernardin Haskell Lecture Fund.
