“The Vagina Monologues” Returns to UMKC

The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) Women’s Center, in collaboration with the 2007 V-Day campaign, is proud to bring The Vagina Monologues to its campus. The performances will take place Monday, Feb. 19, Tuesday, Feb. 20, and Wednesday, Feb. 21 7:00 p.m., University Center, Pierson Auditorium, 5000 Holmes Road. Proceeds will benefit the Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault (MOCSA) and the UMKC Women’s Center violence prevention efforts.

The Vagina Monologues is performed annually on college campuses around Valentine’s Day as part of a global campaign to stop violence against women. In line with the V-Day campaign and fundraising efforts, the Women’s Center is selling chocolates, hand-made scarves, V-Day buttons and T-shirts in its office from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily, as well as at the performances.

V-Day is a national, non-profit corporation that distributes funds to grassroots, national, and international organizations and programs that work to stop violence against women and girls. In 2007, more than 2,700 V-Day benefits were presented by volunteer activists in the U.S. and around the world, and, in its nine-year existence, the V-Day movement has raised more than $30 million.

Tickets are $7 for students and $12 for UMKC faculty and staff and Kansas City community members in advance and $10 for students and $15 for faculty, staff and community members at the door. Tickets can be purchased through the Central Ticket Office at (816) 235-6222 or online through the Women’s Center web site at www.umkc.edu/womenc.
