UMKC Pharmacy professor accepts endowed pediatric chair J. Steven Leeder is Marion Merrell Dow/Missouri Endowed Chair in Pediatric Pharmacology

The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Pharmacy and Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics are pleased to announce the appointment of J. Steven Leeder, Pharm.D., Ph.D. as the Marion Merrell Dow/Missouri Endowed Chair in Pediatric Pharmacology. This position is a collaboration between the Division of Pharmacology & Toxicology in the School of Pharmacy and the Department of Pediatrics at Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics.

Leeder is succeeding Gregory Kearns, Pharm.D, Ph.D., as the holder of this chair, as Kearns is now Chairman of the Department of Medical Research and the Marion Merrell Dow/Missouri Endowed Chair in Pediatric Research at Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics. Both institutions are committed to furthering knowledge of appropriate medication use in children.

Leeder’s current research involves pharmacogenetics, pharmacogenomics and the ontogeny of drug metabolism in children. His specific emphasis is on the pharmacogenetic determinants of drug-induced birth defects and adverse drug reactions in children, and the translation of pharmacogenetics and pharmacogenomics into clinical practice. Leeder is a faculty member of the UMKC School of Pharmacy and holds a joint appointment with the School of Medicine.

The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), one of four University of Missouri campuses, is a public university serving more than 14,000 undergraduate, graduate and professional students. Celebrating 75 years, UMKC engages with the community and economy based on a three-part mission: visual and performing arts, health sciences, and urban engagement.
