Dr. James K. Galbraith’s Oct. 4 visit canceledUMKC economics discussion scheduled for same dateDr. James K. Galbraith’s Oct. 4 visit to the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) has been canceled. An economics discussion – “Why the Bush bailout will not resolve our financial catastrophe” – has been scheduled in its place.
The panel will consist of four members and a moderator:
-Dr. Bill Black, an associate professor of economics and law at UMKC will serve on the panel. From 2005 to 2007, Dr. Black served as executive director of the Austin, Texas-based Institute for Fraud Prevention. For more information about Dr. Black, visit: http://www.law.umkc.edu/faculty/black.htm.
-Dr. Mathew Forstater, an associate professor of economics and black studies at UMKC will moderate the discussion. Dr. Forstater also serves as director of CFEPS and a research associate with the Levy Economics Institute of Bard College. From 1997 to 1999, Forstater served as a visiting scholar at the Levy Economics Institute. From 1992 to 1997, he taught at Bard and Gettysburg College. -Dr. Jan Kregel, a senior scholar with the Monetary Policy and Financial Structure program at the Levy Economics Institute and a distinguished visiting professor at CFEPS will serve on the panel. He served as chief of the Policy Analysis and Development Branch of the United Nations Financing for Development Office and deputy secretary of the United Nations Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters. -Rob Parenteau, a research associate at the Levy Economics Institute, will serve on the panel. He is the sole proprietor of MacroStrategy Edge, where he uses macroeconomic insights to inform U.S. equity and global balanced-portfolio strategy will serve on the panel. -Dr. L. Randall Wray, an economics professor and director of the Center for Full Employment and Price Stability (CFEPS) at UMKC will serve on the panel. With Dimitri B. Papadimitriou – the president of The Levy Economics Institute – he is republishing the work of late financial economist Hyman P. Minsky.
