Bayne, School of Computing and Engineering, named 2009 Student Affairs Honor Recipient One of 10 students honored for outstanding academic and service involvementThe University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management has named Jared N. Bayne a 2009 Honor Award recipient, one of 10 graduating seniors commended for both academic achievements and participation in programs outside the classroom.
Bayne graduates with Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering and a master of science degree in Electrical Engineering. A Dean’s List student and recipient of multiple scholarships, Bayne has been accepted into the Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate program. He begins Navy training in Newport, R.I., this summer.
The honor award program was established in 1975 to recognize graduating seniors who excelled in academic achievement, involvement in university programs and service to the campus and surrounding community.
Bayne volunteered for First Down for Down Syndrome, Camp Quality – a summer camp for children with cancer – and at a local soup kitchen. As a trail builder, he helped lay out and clear hiking trails for the Jackson County Parks and Recreation Department. He also competed in engineering competitions as a member of the Baja Buggy and Robotics teams.
